John Ebdon's debut out FRIDAY 18th August!
Doubt Your Doubts
This Friday I'm excited to announce the release of my first rock/alternative single called "BELIEVE". It will be the first song released off of John Ebdon's debut album "DAWN HUNTER". BELIEVE is our most explosive song sonically, blending classic rock elements with a lyric which points to alternative "contemporary Christian music." The message and vision of this piece collide in the address of a doubting Thomas in each of us met with the bending of a God that pursues us for relationship.
This is the first major production release under my new Production Label/Studio The ToneCrafters.
John Ebdon - voice & acoustic guitar, Frank Hart - electric guitar, Jonas Vasquez - bass, johnny Simmons-drums, written by John ebdon, produced & engineered by Calvin Venus, recorded at Tonecrafters Studio, Publishing by Mattaniah Studios. I had the pleasure to work with 7 year old Harper Mixon, a 2018 Harvey flood victim here in Houston. SHE WROTE "Love Does" and tracked that in my ToneCrafters Studio. One year on, almost to the exact day I believe that the spirit of the official tribute music video captures exactly how we all need to respond to any crisis that could impact any city around the world.
Im a dream weaver, a creative scientist that uses tools to shape sound to convey messages, I cultivate, nurture and fabricate sound to speak to people. I deal with a lot of perspectives, and I love it...as a producer/engineer my role is to manage perspectives and present it in a fashion that inspires, edifies and entertains.
Ok, I admit it, Im a horrible blog writer. There I said it...and I'm not even going to ask for forgiveness. My only hope at this point is to make it up in great music with my brilliant friends! So here we go with a monster album released today by Coffey Anderson, Cowboy Style...
Ive neglected you, Its been almost a month since I posted a blog, my bad! Allow me to make up for it...
I have been a little overwhelmed recently. It's no excuse, but, i have been caught up setting up a new label, building a new studio, and mixing and mastering for over 30 clients all with deadlines inside the same month. Oh and Hurricane Harvey hit our city which impacted every area of my personal and professional life. Thankfully, both our home and studio is dry, but so many of our friends, family and clients weren't as fortunate.

Caribbean Gospel-RnB rising star Sade Sealey releases a thought-provoking song called "Love Over Hate". Now before you think that this is one of those good over evil, feel good Gospel songs...its not. This is a progressive RnB song that boasts of melodic arrangements that compliment the dark yet hopeful introspective lyrics. In the chorus Sade asks the same question we are all ask at certain times in our lives. "What am I living for?"...Lets think about that for a sec.
Yes, the title of this blog relates to its content, and that can be fully realized if your watch the attention grabbing intro to the video "Sinful World" released today by I'm Doin Jesus label.
He did it...#4 on Billboard's Gospel Album Chart!
Humble, blessed and stuck for a few words Sherwin recants his rough journey to the top. "Its only because of God's grace Im alive and steadfast" is the understatement of the year so far. Sherwin grew up in a tiny village in Brazil, Trinidad and Tobago and when not touring round the world spreading bible-centric messages of the hope that can only be found in Jesus.
Palace gives allows for no rest as he rolls out another mixtape.
I love this dude, as his engineer, Palace has so much music planned you really have to watch this guy! When he handed his projects on a hard-drive packed and ready for me to dive into some "gloss" as he calls it, I know he was serious.
When I receive music to be mixed and mastered, I often try to imagine how the music video would be. I think all engineers do, right?
This definitely happens when I'm told that the song I'm working on is going to be the single. This song is different because I had no idea GS was creating a video for "More & More" from his 2016 monster album "Committed", let alone a short-film...
